Position Summary:

Position Focus:

Responsible for the project plan development, execution and successful transfer of New Product Launches (NPL) from inception to full production.  Responsibilities include leadership and direction of cross functional/technical team members and management of project costs, quality objectives and timelines to ensure that quoted standards and internal/external customer goals are met.  This position will be responsible for managing several projects launches concurrently. 

 

Main Activities and Responsibilities:  
  • Function as the company’ s primary customer communications leader for all non-commercial aspects of each project.

o Proactively initiate regular contact with the customer to ensure complete understanding of customer requirements and to update the customer on the status of the program.  Ensure that there are no “ surprises” for either the customer or the company during the program launch activities.

o Lead the resolution of all non-commercial issues that arise with the project. o Regularly confirm customer’ s requirements with the project’ s company Cross Functional Launch Team (CFLT) members.
  • Coordinate the activities of the CFLT members. Ensure regular, effective intra-Team communications.
  • Confirm the scope of the project with the customer before or at the time of project kick-off.  Develop a Statement of Work with the customer that is in alignment with the company’ s quoted program costs.
  • Manage “ scope creep” in the project and ensure that project costs adhere to the program budget.

o If customer requires additional work outside of the Statement of Work, cooperate with the company’ s Sales Account Manager to quote the cost of the additional work.
  • Plan project resources and ensure proper support is given to the project teams.
  • Schedule and lead regular project timeline meetings to ensure the project stays on schedule and on cost.

o In the event project progress is not meeting expectations, immediately develop and drive recovery plans/corrective action to bring the project back on track.

Job Title:                         Product Development /Tooling Engineer              

 Reports To:                      VP of Manufacturing

FLSA Status:                   Exempt

Department:                     Engineering

Summary:    

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:
  • Review all customer prints for manufacturing feasibility.  Define part weight, manufacturing process (including cycle time, shot weight and any post-press operations).
  • Source vendors (tool houses) to quote new tools and any related manufacturing processes or equipment.
  • Coordinate  Tool Guidelines with Vendors, review process and die design concept.
  • Manage tool projects with vendors and conduct weekly follow up.
  • Interface with customers on manufacturing feasibility and tool design (gate location, parting lines, knock-outs, etc.).
  • Provide clear process definition and process window for new products using scientific molding principles.
  • Work with Quality and Manufacturing to define the measurement strategy and control plan for new parts.  Verify implementation assures proper production and measurement of all print requirements.
  • Provide value added Engineering to customers on initial project, meetings with customers when job is awarded.  Review product prints with customer and define with Engineering.
  • Coordinate initial sampling of tool while working closely with Quality Control, Manufacturing and Customers.
  • Resolve problems with customers with initial samples, including revising print and setting critical tool dimensions for manufacturing.
  • Set up Bills of Materials, manufacturing process sheet, assign raw material part numbers, etc. on all new parts.
  • Update Bills of Material as needed while maintaining raw material file.
  • Coordinate with Purchasing to obtain raw material for sampling and initial mass production run.
  • Distribute E.C.N. to affected parties and maintain log and distribution list.
  • Perform print audit once a year to assure proper revision levels are up to date.
  • Manage Special Engineering Projects as assigned by Sales/Marketing to meet customer requirements.
  • Utilize internal resources and research to complete the projects.
  • Manage the quotation log weekly. Including following up on open quotes and defining them being price competitive, specific tool pricing, delivery time frame and status of job being sourced to us. Provide feedback to resolves quote problems.
  • Communicate directly with customers and provide value added Engineering regularly. Once job is awarded, review product prints and define work with the development of new products and parts.
